A dream job
Saturday, March 25th, 2006Your heart has its own geography, where it prefers to be. It may be by a mountain stream. It may be in the Alps. It may be in the hustle and bustle of the streets of London or New York. It may be on an Oregon farm. It may be in a beach town. It may be in the quiet recollection of your own backyard. Your heart knows the places that it loves.
Likewise, your mind has its own geography, where it prefers to be. It may be among books on psychology. It may be among books of art. It may be among books of romances. It may be books of travel. It may be books on business trends. It may be on computers. Your mind knows the subjects that it loves.
Your body also has its own geography, where it prefers to be. It may be walking in the hills. It may be in a yoga class. It may be working out with weights. It may be in a marathon. It may be on a bicycle path. It may be in a physical therapy class. It may be in the local gym. It may be on a basketball court. It may be with massage. Your body knows the workout that it loves.
Your soul, too, has its own geography, where it prefers to be. It may be in a quiet place, it may be in a church, or synagogue or mosque. It may be among honest folk. It may be among those who’re fixed on a kind of social change. It may be almost anywhere, where the values you prize-community, God, compassion, generosity, faith-are valued still by others. Your soul knows the values that it loves.
Therefore, my friend, what " a dream job" is all about (beyond skills) is identifying, these favorite geographies, defining for yourself the places that your skills, your soul, and body, heart and mind, most often yearn to be.
If you would find your dream job, then, you must define these things.
